After winning Idols in 2017, Cape Town’s very own Paxton Fielies has gone from strength to strength. She chats with us about what she’s up to now, her favourite local spots and what she loves about the Mother City.
Tell us a little bit about what you’re up to?
I’ve been working on my second album – and I’m excited for everyone to hear the music I have to offer! (Paxton’s forthcoming album is set for release on 27 October)
What do you love about where you’re from?
I love that Cape Town is diverse, inclusive and immersed in culture.
What advice would you have given yourself when you first entered the music industry?
To be patient and believe in myself a little more.
What has been a real learning moment for you in life?
I went through a period where I was extremely depressed. I was so focused on what my next move would be in my career that I completely neglected my mental well-being. I learned to prioritise my mental health and to do regular check-ins with myself because you can’t pour from an empty cup!
Tell us about your motivation – what brings you joy about what you do?
I love that God can use me to motivate and inspire people, to give them hope and be a testimony that your dreams can become your reality. Some of us don’t even know what we carry, you are worthy and capable of so much more than you think!
