A new innovative theatre production, titled GLIMMER, premieres at Magnet Theatre in Cape Town for a limited season. The show will be staged from 23 to 31 August, 2024.
Magnet Theatre’s GLIMMER is a new play directed and written by award winning theatre maker and puppeteer, Roshina Ratnam, and made possible by a grant from the National Lotteries Commission.
On the heels of the huge success of SURGE (2024 Fleur du Cap Best Theatre Production for Children and Young People nominee), Roshina Ratnam and Magnet Theatre’s New Youth Company team up once again to bring you yet another cutting-edge work.
The story
Since the invention of the internet some 40 years ago, followed by the advent of smartphones and social media, the ways in which we experience the world and each other have fundamentally transformed. GLIMMER delves into the challenges teenagers face today as they navigate their way through school, experience their first love, grapple with the complexities of online culture, and build their identities on various platforms. It explores the joys and pitfalls of growing up in our current technological era, offering a vivid portrayal of the contemporary adolescent experience.
