There’s something deeply grounding about lunch at Foxcroft in the heart of winter. No theatrics. No noise. Just a fire quietly burning, an open kitchen breathing in rhythm, and food that whispers you’ve made the right choice.
Marisia in Africa
Located in Constantia’s leafy High Constantia courtyard, Foxcroft invites you to settle in—not just to eat, but to feel. Chef Glen Foxcroft Williams brings a fine-dining lens to a more relaxed space, with every dish anchored in seasonality, precision, and thoughtful restraint.
On 13 June, 2025, I photographed and experienced their Winter Special Lunch Menu (R595pp) — a generous 3-course offering that unfolds with grace, warmth, and flavour.
And yes, we had the optional dessert too (R150 supplement). Because some meals deserve the full arc.
FIRST COURSE
I started with the Cauliflower Parfait — creamy and comforting, spiced with baharat, balanced by black lime, and scooped up with sesame flatbread. A dish that set the tone for what was to come.
Other options included:
- Heirloom Tomato, charred jalapeño crema, salsa verde
- Tuna Crudo, Szechuan pepper, ginger, coriander, sesame crisp
SECOND COURSE
I couldn’t resist the Cavatelli — pillowy pasta with slow-braised beef cheek, mushrooms, bone marrow, and the kind of black pepper cream that wraps around your senses.
Also offered:
- Braised Pork Belly, sesame cabbage, kimchi jjigae, pickled daikon, crackling
- Chicken & Sweetbreads, stuffed wing, crisp chicken skin, vadouvan spice
MAIN COURSE
The star of the meal: Thai BBQ Duck — rich, tender slices of duck paired with Isaan-style sausage, betel leaf, sticky rice, and a red curry sauce that was deep, smoky, and quietly bold.
The alternative:
- Line Fish, with chorizo, mussels, fennel, romesco, smoked soubise
DESSERT (+R150)
The Persian Milk Pudding was a floral exhale to end on — with poached pears, hibiscus, pistachio, and orange blossom curling into each spoonful. Light, textured, perfumed.
You could also choose:
- Bangkok Market Sweets — khanom thuai, mango sticky rice, Thai tea
Behind the Lens
As I captured each course, it felt like photographing a conversation — between cultures, between textures, between seasons. There’s restraint in the plating, but never in the flavour. The camera loved it, but more than that, I loved it.
Foxcroft doesn’t overplay its hand. It lets the food do the talking. And when it does, you listen.
