Tell us a little bit about yourself.

Let me take you on a journey of the 2023 version of me. I wake up at 5 am every day to train, drink a turmeric shot at 6 am and I’m at the office at 8:30 am. Currently, I’m still working on this part but being at the office at8:30 am is true. I’ve got a Degree in Psychology and Honours in Marketing and Branding. The best part of these two qualifications is that they bridge the gap between people and experience. This allows me to dabble in various spaces like social media marketing, graphic design, events & PR, content creation and brand strategy. Professionally, I am the Head of Marketing for a company called MEB which focuses on water and wastewater treatment. With the state of our beaches and facing water shortages, I find it extremely rewarding to weigh in on this matter and hopefully be able to meet the problem with a solution. The water industry is very male-dominated from government, municipality, and engineering houses, I take pride in the fact that I get to be a female representative of colour breaking the glass ceiling. Sticking to the trend of dabbling in various spaces, I also host some exciting events that are focused on community, connection, and networking. One of my passion projects is called The Dinner Club which is based on the central theme of “not for ourselves alone are we born”. Essentially bringing like-minded individuals together to grow, learn and bebetter. I’m honoured to do this with my business partner Kieran Pather who shares a similar vision for life.

How long have you lived in KZN?

Funny story, I never expected to move to KZN. I visited my parents for two weeks and during that time I took surfing lessons. I fell in love with KZN and the water was a huge source of healing for me during that time. An eat, pray, love moment. Meeting idea with execution I moved my entire life here for a change of scenery and a different experience in Johannesburg. I’ve been living in KZN for a year and a half now. My hair has certainly not come to terms with this decision, but my soul couldn’t be happier.

What is your favourite part about living in this beautiful part of the country?

My career path and reason for moving to KZN should say it all. The ocean really does make such a huge difference in your mental state. Even something little like driving home after a long day at work and catching a glimpse of the sunset and the ocean makes lemons into lemonade. I love knowing I’m a few minutes’ drive away from the ocean. If we bring in my star sign into it Leos, by nature are drawn to large bodies of water.

Tell us about a hidden gem in KZN.

As a certified romantic, I try to find the cutest experiences for my partner and me to do. One experience that I consider a hidden gem would be a Gondola ride along the point waterfront canal. Travelling to Venice but on a budget minus the passports. You are transported to a whole new world for an hour. Zulumoon has various packages and my chosen package was called ‘Message in the bottle’. Call me cheesy but I live for a good romantic gesture! A day before your scheduled ride you send a letter via email to them, which they print and put in a glass bottle for you. In the most non-conspicuous way, the driver will gently put it in the water and prompt your loved one to pick it up. It has that element of surprise and effort which scored the best girlfriend award for me.

What is your favorite sundowner spot in KZN?

Sunset Club in Sibaya has the most beautiful views of the entire precinct, aesthetic sunsets, and walking distance from my house just in case we get a little too carried away with happy hour.

What is your favourite local spot in KZN?

My winning restaurant would be The LivingRoom at Summerhill Estate. An unforgettable gourmet experience that your palette will never be able to recover from. Nestled in a quaint guesthouse in Pinetown showcasing KZN culinary diversity from garden to plate. One of the desserts served was Maltabella but finessed. Nothing comes close to my extraordinary food experience at The LivingRoom.

Are you involved in any passion projects in KZN?

I am one of the proud Directors of SAFE Foster Network. SAFE is an NPC which rescues abandoned/abused pups and dogs from harsh situations and assists in finding these beautiful fur babies forever homes. In the space of 6 months Luke and I have had the pleasure of fostering 10 pups of which 9 have found forever homes. It has taught me the value of loving unconditionally and giving selflessly for the betterment of their future. It’s advocating for someone that can’t do it themselves and being their place of safety, compassion, and love. Every pup has come from a difficult background but with a team of fosters and volunteers, we fully integrate our pups into normal household situations. This is achieved through a large network of fosters who open their homes and take the time to rehabilitate these pups.

SAFE provides all the essentials for fostering. The only thing required from you is love, affection and a place in your home. Twice a month we host a pup meet and greet for the public to get involved and potential owners to come to visit their forever pup for adoption. We have recently launched puppy yoga day and drink for a cause to raise funds. Our biggest need is fosters, funds or donations (dog food, bowls & blankets).

What is your favourite fun activity to do in KZN?

The Pottery at Ballito is my favourite artsy activity for the weekend. A blank canvas, expressing your emotions and sipping on a glass of bubbly. It’s a vibe!

Tell us about a key moment in your life.

Meeting the love of my life, Luke Deutschmann. Long story short, two individuals not looking for love but finding love in each other. Before we met, mutual friends kept prompting an introduction. After some convincing, we met on 11/11/2021 after an entertaining exchange of memes via WhatsApp. Luke had hosted an event to which I was invited, and as they say, “the rest is history”. The moral of the story is to never underestimate the power of memes. That is the biggest blessing KZN could have given me.
