Running until the 2nd of September, Cape Town City Ballet will perform Don Quixote at Artscape. The three-act ballet, based on the novel by Miguel de Cervantes, is a romantic comedy that features passionate young lovers, townspeople, toreadors, gypsies and so much more.
Produced and staged by internationally renowned choreographer and dancer Maina Gielgud, Don Quixote promises to transport audiences through the escapades of Don Quixote and his friend Sancho. International artists that will be gracing the stage include Royal Ballet principals Vadim Muntagirov and Fumi Kanekom, and Bavarian State Ballet’s Antonio Casalinho and Margarita Fernandes.
Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra will feature in select performances and will be led byJonathan McPhee, previously Music Director of Boston Ballet and currently Music Director for the Lexington Symphony. He is described as one of the top conductors for classical ballet and has conducted for the cream of international companies such as New York City Ballet, Boston Ballet and The Australian Ballet amongst others.
