How long have you lived in KZN?
I have lived here all my life and I truly call this place home. I travel quite often for work but no matter where I am, I’m so blessed to be able to call this place home
What is your favorite part about living in KZN?
I love the landscape of KZN. There are very few places that have the ocean, some of the most beautiful mountain ranges in the world, and summer all year round. Plus the whole vibe of Durban is so infectious. You feel at peace here, everything is at your own pace and there is so much opportunity here! The people here are something else! You can go on a night out with friends and end up chatting with someone you have never met for an hour.
Tell us about a hidden gem in KZN
On the Umhlanga Promenade, there is this small ice cream shop tucked into one of the corners, that has been there since I can remember, called The Italian Corner. They have some of the best ice creams in Durban. Everyone has to try it!
What are your favorite sundowner spots in KZN?
Oh wow! There are so many places that I love going to. I love cocktails and some of my favourite spots are Lucky Shaker (you have to try their margarita!), 14 on Chartwell (best Gin cocktails), Legacy Yard (cocktails & overall vibe is always a 10/10) and The Oyster Box-nothing like having a few cocktails overlooking the ocean in summer. It’s going to be my number 1 spot this December.
What, in your opinion, is an absolute must-see in KZN?
Nelson Mandela Capture site. It is such an emotional space that helps ground me. As a young black woman, it was so moving to me to see and experience where our freedom fighters were captured. It put a lot into perspective that many people even younger than I am, fighting for the rights I have today. I think it is something not only every local in KZN but in South Africa should experience. History is so important because it helps us remember where we were and be grateful for where we are today.
Where can we find the best cup of coffee in KZN?
My current top 3 are most definitely Apogee Coffee on Zenith Drive, Mary & Joe in the Umhlanga Village and Starbucks at the Pearls.
If you had to choose a weekend getaway spot in KZN - where would it be?
The Drakensberg or Midlands for a weekend getaway. I love being surrounded by nature, especially the mountains. It’s very peaceful and grounding in the countryside. Each time I leave I’m already planning another trip back!
Tell us about a key moment in your life
Over the years I have been proud of so much! I think it has to be this year when my agency launched White Buffalo Boxing & Fitness. It was months in the making, and after many sleepless nights, we pulled off a 100-person event, flew some of the boxing legends down from across the country, and even had SABC to cover the event and Francois Botha’s story!
What do you think is a misconception people have about KZN?
That it is slow-paced. I think Durban and the people here value their time so much. They want to capitalize on doing what they value the most and oftentimes it’s just not at the pace others may need it to be. I think we have a lifestyle that has its own clock and we tend to do things in our own time which I have learnt to appreciate.
If you could describe KZN in one word?
