Held at Old Park Station in Newtown, this event promises a day packed with high-energy activities, entertainment, and positive vibes, all while offering a diverse range of local and international drinks to indulge in. Get your Skates on
Join one of City Skate’s tours of Braamfontein’s street art to see the city from a different perspective and to appreciate some of the art that makes it one of the leading graffiti spots in the world. The walking tour starts from 70 Juta Street and takes about 2½ hours, taking in striking murals with works done by both local and international artists. The tour costs R550 and takes place on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturday – booking is essential.
First Sundays
Head to Victoria Yards in Lorentzville (the eastern side of Joburg city) on the first Sunday of the month for their vibrant market! The expansive urban farm and community hub is home to makers, artists and artisans. Everything you can imagine is available to browse and buy, from jewellery and furniture to fashion, craft beer and baked goods – all unique and handmade. Entrance is free and the market runs from 10:30am to 4pm.
First Sundays

Joburg Ballet proudly presents ballet sensations Marianela Nunez and Vadim Muntagirov from The Royal Ballet in the enchanting 19th-century ballet, “Don Quixote.” This captivating classic narrates the tale of the bold and beautiful Kitri and her deep affection for the charming yet financially disadvantaged Basilio. Kitri’s father, however, has grander plans for his spirited daughter, aiming to wed her to a wealthy, but somewhat eccentric suitor. Ultimately, love prevails in a spectacular display of classical ballet artistry. Accompanying this mesmerizing performance, the Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra will grace the orchestra pit, breathing life into one of the most brilliant music scores ever composed for the world of ballet.

Get Down to Business
Luke Dale-Roberts’ fabulous Shortmarket Club has introduced its business lunch – and it’s well worth abandoning your al desko lunch for! The bistro-style restaurant offers two or three-courses with either a wine pairing (which changes every 2 months) or Stella Artois, and the menu is packed with flavour-filled dishes inspired by global cuisine. Dishes include Buttermilk Hake Roti, Deboned Chicken Wings, Crispy Calamari, Tomato Taglietelle and Japanese Pork Belly. The business lunch is available during the week at R280 for two courses and one glass of wine/beer and R350 for three courses and two glasses of wine/beer.
Fresh Fridays
Fourways Farmers Market is now a three-day weekend event, open on Friday as well as Saturday and Sunday in Modderfontein. Visitors can now tuck into the fabulous food, delicious cocktails and enjoy a guaranteed good time while taking a break from the busy city (and avoiding the traffic on the way home!). Open from 3pm to 10pm, it’s also a great place for young families to spend the early afternoon –with lawns and beautiful dam, there’s loads of space for little ones to run around. Entry is R20.
Johannesburg Pride ‘23

Johannesburg Pride ’23, also known as Joburg Pride or Jozi Pride, is a prominent LGBTQ+ pride celebration held annually. Established in 1990, it stands as one of Africa’s oldest and most influential pride events. With its enduring growth, it has become a vital platform for advancing LGBTQ+ rights, acceptance, and inclusivity in South Africa and beyond.
Held every October, Johannesburg Pride spans over a week, featuring a diverse array of events such as educational workshops, art exhibitions, film screenings, live music, drag shows, and panel discussions. The festivities culminate in a lively and colourful pride parade, which commences at 2 pm. Participants march through the streets, celebrating their identities and advocating for LGBTQ+ visibility while honouring the struggles of those who came before.
Johannesburg Pride unites thousands of individuals annually, showcasing solidarity for LGBTQ+ rights and visibility in Africa, making it a significant and cherished event for the community and its allies.
Muddy Kids

Muddy Kids presents a thrilling 3km family obstacle mud run designed for children aged 5 to 15 and their families.
Craft unforgettable memories together as a family by embarking on an exhilarating and muddy adventure. Children aged 5 and above are invited to tackle this exciting course, brimming with over 15 obstacles to climb, jump, slide, and crawl through.
Please note that at least one adult and one child must register together. A maximum of four children can register alongside one adult. The minimum age for children’s participation is 5 years old. Children between the ages of 5 and 15 must be accompanied by a registered and participating adult. For those aged 16 and 17, they can register with a Kids ticket, and parental or legal guardian supervision is not mandatory.
