The Cult of Ugliness
Using the iconic Irma Stern’s artworks – and the critique that her pieces were ‘ugly’ – as a starting point, Georgina Gratrix has opened an exhibition of paintings and sculptures at the artist’s former home. As part of the museum’s 50th anniversary year, she has worked in the museum residency studio since July and, like Stern, she’s a dedicated colourist testing the limits of oil painting, interested in the gaudy, the obvious and the banal. Join a walkabout with Georgina on the 26 November | Booking via is essential.
Run for a Cause!
Established by two passionate runners, Run 4 A Cause is partnering with the Walking with Brandon Foundation for a 48 hour challenge that will see the team running for 48 hours to raise funds for persons with disabilities and help them access affordable rehabilitative treatment. They’re challenging all runners – whether in a club, family or individual – to participate in the cause (in person or virtually) by running, walking or cycling for 4.8km alongside the team at any point during the challenge.
